On July 14th, 2025, I had the privilege of facilitating a unique LEGO® Serious Play (LSP) induction session for 35 design students and 10 faculty members at the Unitedworld Institute of Design (UID), Karnavati University, Ahmedabad.
Instead of beginning their design journey with lectures or slides, we explored the fundamentals of Design Thinking through play. Using LEGO bricks, participants built metaphors, shared reflections, and tackled hands-on challenges that brought their creativity, imagination, and problem-solving skills to life.
Students shared their personal stories, offering a spark of empathy and a glimpse into how each one views the world. Faculty too engaged deeply, creating a space for openness, reflection, and meaningful connections.
That’s the true power of Purposeful Play—it breaks barriers, builds confidence, and creates a platform for ideas to flow.
A big thank you to UID and the Global Design Program team for trusting me to design this experience. Watching students open up, connect, and reflect reminded me why we do what we do—because play transforms learning.
